After understanding the convention of digipacks, I started designing my own digipack for Linkin Park's 'Living Things' Album.
Digipack:
Initial Planning:
In photoshop I recreated the original Linkin Park Logo, I experimented with colours and text on this logo.Experimentation:
Using license free images from Unsplash.com, I began planning my cover. I created minimalistic digipack covers with nothing but a background and a geometric shape.
I really liked the second concept as the Album is called 'Living Things' so the concept of a tree with moss and a spider's web on it really appealed to me. However, as there are no recognisable conventions of the band Linkin Park the audience would not recognise this as one of their products.
Development:
With continued experimentation on the images I found on Unsplash.com I decided to try one using a recognisable convention of Linkin Park and that is their logo (The conjoined LP). I really liked the black and white image and the concept behind the children running and enjoying being outside really stood out to me. The simplicity of the cover was a style I really liked and the album title down in the bottom right was really visible on the photo.
Further Development:
I looked around on Unsplash.com and found two new photos (the deer and sand dunes). I really liked how the typeface came out with the double exposure style. I also like the Linkin Park logo (LP) in the bottom right-hand corner as the audience will recognise this as Linkin Parks album.
Digipak Idea Development
I decided to design the front cover of my digipak as holographic and it consisted of the deer image and the child image, I chose these images as I feel they are the most opposite and visually appealing as the deer picture is very colourful and the child picture is black and white however both pictures are very simple yet visually appealing.
However, after consideration of the other medias the cover will be on like mobile phone and digital copies (see below), I decided that it would be too hard to have two cover images and decided to just use the deer cover concept and develop it more.
Digipak Design Plan:
I designed a mock up for a music app using my album art plan to see how it would look in a real situation as if someone was to listen to the album with my cover.
